Your body is your temple...

“There is but one temple in the Universe…and that is the human body. Nothing is holier than that high form. We touch Heaven when we lay our hands upon the human body”. -

Thomas Carlyle, Scottish Philosopher

Temple-
A place dedicated to worship
Having within it a divine presence
A place reserved for a highly valued function

Your body symbolizes health. How you treat your body directly correlates with how you feel. Along with a healthy body comes a clear mind and a happy spirit. Worship your body, your temple, by taking care of it. Worshiping your body entails doing what’s best for it, not only on the outside but on the inside. Nurture it with the proper nutrition, regular exercise, and sufficient sleep. Worshiping your body requires you to develop an intimate relationship with it as you learn about it and listen to it. If your body aches, or becomes sick, it is letting you know that something is out of balance, or missing. One way to nurture your body, your mind and your spirit is to get a massage. Getting a massage allows you to treat your body- your temple with respect, compassion, and care.

As your temple, your body is the vehicle that carries you through this life. Without your body, it would be virtually impossible to do the things that are important to you. Don’t wait until you have a crisis in your life to begin to appreciate your body. Begin today, and worship your body. Provide it with healthy nutrition, exercise and the rest that it needs. Take some time out of your busy schedule to stop and reflect. Honor yourself, and treat your body, to a therapeutic and relaxing massage. Remember, Health is a state of balance, and through massage you are on the path to reaching this blissful state.

Stress Busters

Ways to Relax: Stress is your body’s normal response to a threat of any kind. This threat does not have to be huge. It can be as small as running late to an appointment, or having an argument with a friend. Too much stress can become “toxic” affecting various systems of your body, leaving you feeling exhausted, anxious, and even sick.

Breathe Deeply: Breathe in deeply and slowly through your nose, letting your abdomen expand like a balloon, then slowly exhale through your lips, pulling your abdomen in. Try this exercise 5 more times, concentrating on your breath. Notice how you feel more relaxed, and possibly even energized at the same time.

Meditation: Easily accessible for everyone, no special way to sit, no classes to attend, no philosophy to believe. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and silently repeat a word that has no emotional meaning to you. Your mind will wander, but come back to the repetition when it does. Don’t strain or try to hard, coming back to the repetition when thoughts take you away. (and they will). Start with 5 minutes and gradually work up to more time.

Do Some Headwork: Place your palms above your ears, fingertips touching at the top of your head. Press gently and make circular motion with your palms, moving your hands down the side of your head. With your thumbs at the base of your skull, press in and slide them down to the base of your neck 5 or ten times. With one hand grab, squeeze, and rub the back of your neck ten times, and then do the same with your other hand.

Exercise: It might be working in the yard, taking a bike ride, playing your favorite sport, or just taking a walk outdoors. Think of activities that you like but that you rarely allow yourself time to do, and then commit to doing them as often as you can. Rhythmic activities, like walking, raking leaves, and even cleaning can be healing as they allow your body and mind to get into its own healthy rhythm, allowing you to work out problems, find solutions, or even just day dream for a while. Even just 15 minutes at a time is great.

Get outdoors for a brief break: Our grandparents were right about the healing power of fresh air. Don’t be deterred by foul weather or a full schedule. Just 5 to 10 minutes in your yard or on your front porch can be rejuvenating. While outdoors, feel the fresh air, the breeze, listen to the birds, and observe the life that is in full bloom all around you.

An Investment in Yourself

Massage is much more than just a luxury- it is a vital part of self-care that has a positive ripple effect on you as you work, play, relax, live life, and care for others. During Economically challenging times, it is vital to invest in preventative health care.
