Roman Legacy

Ancient Roman Society contributed to the art and science of massage therapy, leaving behind a legacy and impacting the way in which other cultures view the Human Body and Relaxation. While studying the history of massage, I was intrigued and amazed at how central a role massage played in Roman Culture. The Roman Baths were the site of everyday social and business life for all members of society. Thermal Baths, Aromatherapy, Skin Treatments, and Massage were all woven into the very fabric of Ancient Roman Life. Massage was used to treat stiff and sore muscles and joints, along with improving circulation, and fight diseases that at the time had no other cure. Roman Gladiators were given massages before and after their sparring matches. In 776 BC with the introduction of the Olympic Games, athletes were massaged prior to events to prevent injury, create flexibility, and enhance healing and recovery time. The body was viewed as an instrument of great strength that deserved to be taken care of both physically and mentally. The Roman Body was revered and through massage this legacy has been handed down.

Roman Body Massage celebrates the union of your body mind and spirit. Together all three complete who we are and our experience here on this earth. I cannot think of a better way to nurture your soul, relax your body, and renew your spirit than to experience a therapeutic massage. The pressures of daily life are continuously increasing. Your ongoing drive and fast paced momentum can quickly result in pre-mature aging, increased stress, fatigue and a depleted energy level. It is essential that we as a society take the time to relax and connect with our bodies, our mind and our spirit. In doing so we are enhancing our health and celebrating the human condition. So as they say in Rome, “Carpe Diem”- Seize the day and while doing so celebrate the Roman Body.
