Spring Fever

The weather this week has been incredible. Warm temps, blue skies, and a breeze welcoming Spring with open arms seems to be what the Doctor has ordered for us in Houston. While in College, a day like this led many of us to develop “spring fever” and head down to Lake Travis or Barton Springs and enjoy the warm sun. Spring Time in Austin, while attending the University of Texas was an experience that isn’t hard to forget. Loading my books into my backpack, along with some sunscreen, and heading to the shores where I would study many afternoons along the blue waters of Lake Travis is something that I meditate on many days.

While you may or may not have the opportunity to spend much time outdoors during the afternoon hours this week, it is possible that you may be able to take some time out of your busy schedule and enjoy a relaxing massage. Let your mind take you on a journey as you lie on my table. Imagine yourself outdoors, walking on your favorite path as the warm sun shines down upon you, your mind clear of any distractions, your breath guiding you into pure relaxation. As you breathe in, feel the warmth of the sun penetrate the crown of your head, down your neck, and along your spine. Tension will begin to melt away as you let go with a sigh of relief. In the background you will hear flowing water from one of my fountains, symbolic of a stream up ahead, birds chirp from a sound machine in the background, creating the perfect scenario for you to experience your Spring Journey.

If the description above sounds like something that you would like to experience, then you are only a phone call away from beginning your own Spring Adventure. Guided meditations are something that I am beginning to offer as a way to set the stage for your relaxation. These meditations can be done for 15-30 minutes before we begin the massage as a way to prepare your body and mind to let go. If meditation is something that you would like to see me offer more of as a service please feel free to give me your feedback, as I am contemplating offering this as an additional treatment option at various lengths ranging from half hour meditative sessions to 1 hour sessions followed by either a Reiki Treatment, or Massage.

My goal is to provide a sanctuary for you to connect with your spirit. Through my various massage services, I will lead you on a path filled with balance and relaxation. Just as Spring brings renewal to each and everyone of us as we leave Winter behind, my massage session will bring both peace and relaxation to your whole being. Have a blessed day.

Namaste,

Metamorphasis

As I sit and contemplate a blog topic for today, my thoughts are briefly interrupted by the calming echo of the wind chimes on the patio. My thoughts temporarily shift to the weather, as it is evident that the winds are picking up outside. Those of you who know me well are familiar with the fact that I am a weather enthusiast, with a fascination surrounding severe weather. What many may not know is that I am also certified as a Severe Storm Spotter. What is a Severe Storm Spotter you may ask?

A Spotter helps keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service. In Texas, we are called SKYWARN spotters. Although SKYWARN spotters provide essential information for all types of weather hazards, the main responsibility of a SKYWARN spotter is to identify and describe severe local storms. We are the eyes, and ears of the National Weather Service. When we witness conditions that fit the criteria of severe weather in a particular area, we communicate this with the National Weather Service so that warnings can be issued, and lives can be saved. In the average year, 10,000 severe thunderstorms, 5,000 floods and more than 1,000 tornadoes occur across the United States.

The winds outside are the precursor for a cold front that will be arriving on Monday, or should I say “cool” front as the temperatures will only fall into the mid to upper 40′s a few nights while remaining a nice and warm 72-77 during the days. The transitioning weather is a prime indicator that Spring is just around the corner. As the weather shifts into a more Spring pattern, the landscape will begin to blossom before our very eyes. A Metamorphosis is about to occur as the warmer temperatures, along with longer days will lead to a renewal of life as we know it. I look forward to this time of year because it symbolizes rejuvenation- flowering plants, blossoming trees, and green grass will all paint the landscape, while the sun warms the earth’s surface.

Massage Therapy can serve as the catalyst that renews your body, mind, and spirit. Just as seasons transition one to another, you too are able to transition into a new season of your life and leave behind the body aches, the anxiety, the tension, and the stress. Allow massage to be your “winds of change”. Take some time out of your busy schedule and allow an experienced massage therapist to awaken your spirit within. As you lay on the table, allow your breath to release the tension you have been holding within as you exhale. As you inhale, imagine breathing in new life into your body. Feel your muscles awaken as the hands of your therapist knead your body. With each massage stroke you will feel more and more alive. Just as the plants, and trees awaken from a deep freeze of a long and arduous winter, your mind, body, and spirit will awaken as the result of a therapeutic massage. Take some time to reflect and do what is best for your body. I look forward to assisting you on your journey to self renewal.

Namaste,

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my Blog. This section of my web site is a place for me to share my thoughts and feelings about life, as well as information regarding my massage practice. From time to time, I will post information regarding health, relaxation, and wellness, including new services as I offer them, along with specials and service discounts. My goal is to share what I discover along my own quest for a more healthy and balanced life.

Ancient Roman Culture embraced massage as an important part of male health. During ancient times massage therapy was reserved for athletes, warriors, kings, and dignitaries. Massage was a “guy thing” and was not considered pampering or unmanly, but instead therapeutic. Ancient Male therapists were schooled in the sciences of Anatomy and Kinesiology, as well as the art of massage technique. Eventually, massage was looked at as an indulgence that was for women and began to lose its masculine roots. After a shift in attitude for several centuries, men are once again recognizing massage for its many benefits. Executives, Professional Athletes, Construction Workers, Body Builders, Trainers, Landscapers, and all who aim for a healthy mind, body, and spirit are now making massage a part of their health regimen. I encourage you to listen to your body and experience massage and the many benefits that it can bring into your life.
